With a phenomenal, rich voice and superb guitar chops, Mr. Rohlk demonstrated what it meant to be an up-and-coming singer-songwriter with a dearth of quality, mellow folk and pop originals. Not only did Andrew show his knack for songwriting, but he also displayed a unique perspective to several cover tunes including Mumford & Sons “Little Lion Man” and Death Cab for Cutie’s “Cath…” …The most endearing moment occurred when Rohlk ended his set with the entire audience singing “La Dee Da” under an original tune, a mark of a catchy songwriter and experienced showman.

Andrew’s music is nothing short of beautiful to listen to. As a solo artist he packs in layers of rich musical texture into single guitar parts that always manage to surprise the listener; and his breathy, warm vocal delivery compliments them perfectly. His subject matter is wonderfully varied, ranging from songs of hopeful romanticism to introspective criticism. As we talked I got a chance to learn about how thoughtful, and truly committed to music Andrew is.

With little more than his voice and his acoustic guitar, Andrew Rohlk crafts great pop songs. His vocal melodies are sophisticated and the chorus on “I’m a Mess” is a real earworm. His lyrics cleverly portray the conflicting emotions of falling for someone: the excitement and apprehension of losing control, the potential for an amazing time or a complete mess. Andrew Rohlk manages to capture this trial and error element of romantic life. As we all know, it can be a painful process, but put in the context of Rohlk’s musical ability it sounds far more pleasant.
