Let’s Get Naked …with Songs

This Tuesday, Oct 23rd, I’ll be playing Naked Songs!

Fortunately for you, I will be wearing clothes. Here’s an explanation from the Hazy Shade Productions website:

The concept of “Naked Songs” is music stripped down to its bare essence, with just one voice and one instrument…This is not an open mic.  Each showcase will feature several invited songwriters performing up to four of their original songs.  The emphasis is on ORIGINAL music.

Great! That’s essentially what I’ve been doing this whole time as a solo acoustic artist. So fine by me! (This is subject to change eventually. The logistics of a live band are in the works!)

Bob Ogburn Barn Blowout!

So go ahead and say Bob Ogburn out loud. Still not funny? Ok, I guess it’s a you-had-to-be-there joke that only Taylor and I find hilarious. That’s not even a real person as far as I know, but Taylor Ogburn sure is. And boy, what a guy.

Beyond being hilarious and one of the most genuinely talented creative people I know (music stuff, video stuff, other stuff, etc.), he’s also insanely driven in pursuing a full time career as a musician. So much so, in fact, that he’s planning to road trip out to LA with mainly just his guitar and the bare essentials. He’ll be playing shows along the way and blogging & vlogging his adventures…..

Before he goes, he’s throwing one last hurrah here in RVA with a weekend of food, fun, and music of course. And it’s all going down at a barn, house, thing…. It used to be a barn? Now it’s a house….whatever, it’s cool. I promise.

Campfire, corn hole, and lots of music. Come one or both days! I dare you not to enjoy yourself.

Sept. 29 & 30 | House/Barn Show 7PM at 32 Cobblestone Circle Henrico, VA 23238

Recording Break + Shows!

So I’m taking a little siesta from recording this week. Colin is busy with other projects (including recording my bud, Taylor Ogburn, who I’ll talk about later in this post. Get excited for continued reading!), and I myself just started a new job that is hectic to say the least.

However, that doesn’t mean the music will stop! The show must go on, and speaking of shows, I have a few of my own coming up:

Also free! There will be food, and it’s Taylor’s last show before he lives out his dream of road tripping to LA with little more than his guitar and his wits. Read all about it over at his site:

Recording Update

I’m currently studio chilling with Colin Healy (whose music you should check out right now), and we seem to be on a roll.

Similar to this.

Anyway, we’ve finished laying down the drum tracks on 6 songs! Which I guess I should take this chance to officially say that the end result of  this recording project will be a 6 song EP titled…….(drumrolllllll)…….. “Somewhere In Between”

This title describes the point I am in my life, and I think these songs reflect that. Speaking of which, here’s the track list:

  1. Put You In a Song
  2. Indisposed
  3. Make a Decision
  4. Through the Fear
  5. Conversation About You
  6. Every time  (AKA the Bobby Pin Song, click here to find out why.)

So that’s the game plan, folks. Bass tracks are almost done and “Put You In a Song” is super close to being all the way done. So hopefully you’ll get to hear that soon since it’s going to be the lead single!

Thank you for reading and keep being awesome. Yes, you. You are awesome.

Started recording with Colin Healy this week, and thus far the tune we’re working is sounding yummy. We might even record a whole batch of tunes, but time will tell. Stay tuned for more updates on the recording process and eventually some yummy new ear candy to chew on.

No…not that kind.

Oh, yuck. Definitely not that kind. Why does this exist?! I don’t suggest Googling “ear candy.”

Been doing a lot of (re)blogging on my tumblr these days. It’s not as music related as the one here on my site, but maybe that’s a good thing.

Music is a huge part of my life, but it’s not everything. No one thing can be everything without turning into an unhealthy and unsatisfying obsession. So I’ve been reading and absorbing in a more buffet-style/sample-platter style these days and seeing what sticks. It not only informs and enhances my own writing & songwriting, but makes me think more broadly and I feel like I’m living a more holistic life.

But maybe that’s just the Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies Major in me talking.

Post-show Recap

Got 2 show recaps coming atcha.

Last weekend I played a fun-filled show at the Pigeon Hole in Charlottesville. Saw some old friends that I haven’t seen in a while and met some new ones that totally rule. The vibe was very much like a chill house show which I’m always a fan of. Also got to hang with the dudes in Adam in America which is always a plus.

Last night, I played a benefit show here at my lovely university for the Tyler Clementi Foundation and it was a good time as well. The Human Fly opened things up with a solid acoustic set then I was up. Halfway through my set I decided to get the people going with some Hall & Oates. They were all too happy to oblige me and proceeded to shred up the dance floor. Forward Smash kept the energy going and then Money Cannot Be Eaten rounded out the night with their set of tasty songs.
